This year we once again participated in the annual Hayes Green Beach HealthFest! Below are some pictures from the event.

All of us here at Red Cedar Oncology are anxiously awaiting the warm weather, as we are sure you are as well. Hopefully, we will be seeing that sunshine soon!

In March, our office took part in the annual Hayes Green Beach Health fest. This was a wonderful event offered to the community that focused on health, health, wellness, and prevention. At our station, we saw approximately 100 people from the Charlotte community and provided helpful tips of healthy eating and cancer prevention.

Our cookbook, Recipes from Red Cedar, has been published. The book includes recipes from our staff and our patients. They are on sale for $10 and can be purchased at the check-out desk. All proceeds will benefit a charity of Red Cedar Oncology's choosing.

Judy, our Nurse Practitioner, has formed a cancer support group. We Can! is a support group for women that meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:30pm. This group will focus on areas concerning personal health, body image, spirituality, sexual health, family, and fears of recurrence. If you are interested in joining the group or have further questions, contact Judy.

There are numerous Relay for Life events starting this month and continuing thru the summer. For those of you who are not familiar with Relay for Life, it is an event held for 24 hours to increase awareness about cancer and to raise money to support the American Cancer Society. With the money raised by this event, the American Cancer Society is able to reach out to those affected by cancer. They fund cancer research, provide education, and support early cancer detection. The American Cancer Society is also able to provide many free services to patients such as: rides to/from doctor or chemotherapy appointments, wigs, and makeovers to women who have are having a difficult time dealing with the physical changes of cancer and chemotherapy. Red Cedar Oncology proudly supports the Relay for Life of Charlotte. This year’s Relay in Charlotte is June 24th and June 25th. We encourage everybody to attend one of the local Relay for Life events!

There are soon to be two new arrivals in the Red Cedar Family! Kevin, one of our nurses, and his wife, Heather, are expecting their second child any day now. Angela, one of our medical assistants, and her husband, Lee are expecting their first child in June. We wish both families the best.

It is hard to believe another year has flown by. This is our second winter here and we still love our location! Below are pictures of some visitors we have outside our windows!

Our office was involved in a number of fun activities throughout the year. In March we participated in the Hayes Green Beach Health Fest. This was a great opportunity for people to get free health information and health screenings. In June we participated in the Charlotte Relay For Life. This 24 hour event was a huge success, raising over $80,000 for the American Cancer Society. Dr. Rapson was one of the guest speakers who helped kick-off this awesome event. Lastly, in October we participated in the Hike for Hospice. Despite the wind, we still helped raise awareness about Sparrow Hospice Services.

There have been several other fun things within our office. We have been working on an office cookbook and are in the final editing stages. We will keep you all posted on its progress.

Several of our patients participated in the Oldham Project. This was a wonderful project that displayed the beauty of women who experienced a life-threatening or terminal illness. We were also fortunate to have a display of pictures by Lilly Oncology in our office. This display was a collection of artwork that described a patient's family, and/or caregiver's cancer journey.

Our patients are really enjoying the variety of birds and those squirrels are hilarious. They are very well fed for the winter and can really flatten themselves out to get that sunflower seed!!

As most of you are aware, we have moved into our new office. We are settling in nicely. We really enjoy all of the extra space and worry-free parking. So far, all of our patients seem to enjoy it as well. We are planning on an open house sometime this fall. We invite everyone to join us and check out our new place. We will keep you posted on the date and time.

We participated in the Charlotte Relay for Life in June. Even though we were rained out on Friday, there was a great turnout on Saturday. We are very proud of all those who worked towards making our second year a success. We thank all those who donated their money and time. A special thanks goes out to our "worker bees" who worked so hard to make cancer bracelets. Without the sale of these bracelets we would not have gone over our fundraising goal. Team Red Cedar Oncology walked 868 laps (or 217 miles) and raised over $3,900. Way to go! (And for those of you wondering about these cancer bracelets... we will resume making them in the fall. Keep an eye out for them!)

We are also going to participate in the Hike for Hospice on Sunday, October 4th. It is going to be held at Hawk Island Park. We invite everyone to join us and find out what Hospice is and what they can do. It truly is a nice event with plenty of fun activities.

Well it has been quite a while since our news has been updated. We hope that 2009 has treated you well so far. On March 7th, we again participated in the Hayes Green Beach Health Fest. We enjoyed this very much and loved handing out special prizes to all those who spun our prize wheel. On June 19th and 20th, we will participate in the Charlotte Relay for Life. This will be our second year taking part in this event and we are looking forward to it. For those of you not familiar with this event, Relay for Life is a 24 hour event designed to raise money towards the fight against cancer. We have definitely come a long way implementing our Electronic Medical Records. We have been working on this for over a year and are happy with our progress. We still have some minor glitches that are being worked out so please be patient with us.

We are happy to announce we will be moving our office this summer. See pictures of it below! We are looking forward to having a larger office. We will give you all more information on our move closer to this summer.
